Michigan plumbing inspection

First and foremost any local plumber in Michigan is going to suggest a year’s inspection of your plumbing system from sinks to bathtubs to main sewer lines. Yes, we highly recommend this if your plumber says to schedule one. You can even schedule one if you’re noticing your drains are a little slower than usual.

Local plumbers in Michigan can come out and inspect your drain fields and identify the issues and suggest solutions for them sometimes can be a simple drain cleaning. A good inspection will help you find where the leaks are and the proper protocol for fixing them before the flooding starts in your basement and you’re going to need to waterproof your basement.

Overall a yearly plumbing inspection in Michigan can save you time and thousands of dollars in repair and replacements. Foundation crack repair can cost around $200 to $800 alone and that’s if you catch it in time.

Avoid drain cleaning in Michigan

From time to time you could boil some hot water to help unclog your drains and keep them flowing plus it may save you a phone call for plumbing in Michigan. I just did the boiling water and put it down my bathroom sink just a few weeks ago, it worked for a little while until I had to get a hand snake to finish the job. One of the reasons this works is because the heat will help the pipe expand and let the clog-free you maybe want to consider doing this once a week. Don’t pour it down the drain too fast though.

Drain guards can be useful if you run into drain clogs a lot. You can pick a drain guard at your local hardware store or Amazon.com sells them. Drain guards will help prevent hair and soap scrums from going down your drain and causing build-up in your pipes. These guards can come in plastic or rubber. If you buy the drain guards look for them in a pack of three or six and you should be replacing them every couple of months depending on the debris build-up that it has.

You can use drain cleaner but if you go out and buy it you want to see what kind of chemical-free drain cleaner is out there. If you don’t have a chemical-free drain cleaner you can honestly use what you have in your home which is baking soda and hot water, that’s what I typically use, and if you don’t have baking soda use salt. Here’s how to use it to drain clogs in your home.

  1. Pour 1/3 baking soda down the clogged drain
  2. Boil hot water then pour it slowly down the drain and let it sit for about 15-30 minutes
  3. rinse down with hot water again from the faucet

You can also try to use vinegar if you would like but it doesn’t seem to work as fast as I’d like but it’s up to you.

Noticing drain problems

There are ways that you can notice if you are about to have issues with clogged drains and some are easier than others to spot but you can either try and take care of them when you spot them or let a plumber handle them.

  • Discolored water
  • Clogs in drains and toilets
  • Water stains on the ceilings or walls
  • An unpleasant odor
  • Bacteria or mold growing (this needs to be taken care of ASAP)
